SUMMARY

Helps maintain radiation exposure to plant personnel and the public As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Reduces radioactive contamination levels, provides radiological protective clothing, handles radioactive waste, provides guidance to radiological workers. Performs radiological surveys and radiological sample analyses. Issues and inventories radiological equipment. Prevents radioactive material from being unconditionally released from the Radiologically Controlled Area. Performs high-complexity radiological job coverage commensurate with experience level.

 

EDUCATION

  • High School/GED or equivalent (Required)
  • Associates Degree or higher in Radiation Protection (Preferred)
  • Other : Successful completion of Radiation Protection Technician Course or equivalent (as determined by ANSI or other applicable standards). (Required)

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 Years commercial nuclear power health physics experience. (Required)

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technician (Preferred)

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

TECH RP :

  • Helps maintain radiation exposure to plant personnel and the public As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Reduces radioactive contamination levels, provides radiological protective clothing, handles radioactive waste, provides guidance to radiological workers. Performs radiological surveys and radiological sample analyses. Issues and inventories radiological equipment. Prevents radioactive material from being unconditionally released from the Radiologically Controlled Area. Performs high-complexity radiological job coverage commensurate with experience level.
  • Learns technical aspects of radiation protection through classroom and on-the-job training. Provides guidance to radiological workers in both written and, verbal forms.
  • Performs radiological surveys and post areas in accordance with plant procedures. Analyzes radiological samples in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Monitors plant conditions and reports abnormal conditions through the Condition Reporting Process.
  • Performs maintenance, inventories, and issue of radiological equipment and instruments. Monitors equipment and material for unconditional release from the RCA in accordance with plant procedures and commensurate with experience level.
  • Performs decontamination of plant equipment and areas. Maintains a sufficient inventory of protective clothing for use by station personnel. Collects, segregates, and packages radioactive waste for storage or shipment.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accept ERO position as needed.
  • Accept outage position as needed.  

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
  • Ability to use formulas involving unit analysis, algebra, and logarithms to calculate radiation exposure, contamination levels, personnel stay times, and to successfully complete required training. Ability to enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to meet and maintain qualifications required for use of a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Ability to transport radiation instruments or waste material weighing up to 30 pounds to areas within the plant including areas only accessible by ladders.
  • Ability to clearly communicate work instructions to radiation workers; i.e., good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully complete employee screening exam and all required training. Successful completion of Qualification Cards and Oral Boards associated with the specific level of technician.
