Intern Mechanical
Summary
STP’s Mechanical Maintenance Internship Program is designed to provide students with practical, hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems in a commercial nuclear power plant environment. Interns will gain exposure to real-world mechanical maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and system optimization. This program provides students with the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing reliability and efficiency of the plant’s mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
The intern will work closely with the mechanical maintenance team to assist in the upkeep and repair of critical mechanical systems.
Responsibilities will include:
• Assisting with the maintenance, inspection, and repair of mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, compressors, and motors.
• Supporting the identification and resolution of mechanical issues to ensure plant equipment is operating at peak performance.
• Conducting preventive maintenance activities and assisting with the creation of maintenance schedules.
• Assisting with troubleshooting mechanical systems, diagnosing issues, and developing solutions.
• Documenting maintenance procedures and updating records for equipment and inspections.
• Assisting in reviewing mechanical drawings, manuals, and service documentation to ensure accurate maintenance practices.
Requirements
• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to South Texas Project Electric Generating Station.
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Currently enrolled in 2-year or a 4-year institution and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Maintenance or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance practices and safety protocols.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Must be in good academic standing with your school.
